Changes made: Swapped out RM850x Shift for the new RM1000x 3.1 Corsair PSU
After multiple years of laptop/console gaming, I decided to pull the trigger and finally build a gaming pc. I currently have a G14 2022 ROG Zephyrus, my daily driver for work/school and gaming. I eventually bought the Samsung 32" Monitor to use as my main monitor at home paired with my laptop. Although my computer is perfectly capable of running the games I enjoy at decent or lower frames I mainly wanted to have a machine that is capable of being used as my main pc as well as able to run all possible games at high frames in 1440p before I look for an OLED.
Went for a mainly blackish-themed pc with the RGB to compensate for the lack of color.
Mainly use it for school work, fps games, story games and sim racing.
I'm running a -30 undervolt on the CPU and seeing around 4.9GHz in clock speeds. I've had no failures yet, and the PC is running amazing.
Temps are around 40-45 Idle or in low use and around 80 max at full load (RTX Max Graphics in most games usually)
Photos showcase the build, the plastic is still on. Yes, I know I should remove it but I just can't yet. The last photo shows the old PSU when I originally built it. it
Build parts and choices made:
CPU: Ryzen 7 7800X3D, nothing to be said, got it for 490Cad as the greatest gaming CPU (Now the 9800X3D) capable of running absolutely everything
COOLER: 50Cad for an air cooler that can cool the 7800X3D? No questions asked
MOBO: Asrock B650E Taichi Lite, may have spent a tad bit more than I should have but seeing numerous reviews praising this mobo and its capability I looked into it and got it for a solid 350Cad a little over what a B650 Steel Legend would have been at the time. This mobo is a monster and has the most insane power stages ever. Will be capable of running any CPU in the future
For anyone asking, Yes you can fit the monster EATX into the H6 Flow, might just be a funky build but worth it
RAM: Trident Z5 Neo, looks amazing and has great speed/timing. Could have saved by getting TeamGroup but liked the look of Neo
GPU: Originally was looking into getting a 7900XTX or a 4070 TI Super but eventually managed to settle on a 4080 Super. I was torn between the ASUS TUF and the PNY XLR8 but chose the XLR8. There are some cons with this as I have heard the GPU fan curve cannot be adjusted, no issue for me as the fans only activate when I run a game with higher GPU Consumption. Love the look of the 4080 Super as well and is a massive brick.
STORAGE: WD SN850X 1TB/4TB, Looked at getting Samsung 980 Pro's originally but they were falling OOS and becoming too expensive. Had previous WD drives in external and internal formats and wanted to continue being a WD fan. Settled on the 1 TB for boot/main programs with the 4 TB being just a game drive. May have been able to save on some cheaper drives that were similar in performance but decided to get the SN850X
CASE: H6 Flow, in hindsight this case is pretty small, I managed to squeeze the EATX board in which makes it kind of small, otherwise a very unique case. I love the look of the angled front while still keeping its dual-chamber design. Little thick and is more of a cube than a rectangular shape but still my favorite case. Got it for very cheap at 75Cad with price matching
PSU: RM1000X ATX 3.1, originally had the RM850x Shift but that did not work out with the H6 Flow as the cables go up and look ugly being overtop of the GPU, also put a lot of strain on the 12vphwr connector (See last photo: with old PSU)
FANS: Lian Li SL V2 6 120s/ 2 140s, a little bit expensive but they do the job incredibly well, not super RGB intensive, and provide good lighting at night as well as showcasing inside the case
Future upgrades: Custom cables, OLED 4K or 1440p monitor
Part Reviews
CPU
Super fast CPU, amazing how much performance the X3D can give to an 8 Core Processor, easily performs well in CPU intensive tasks
Video Card
I got this GPU for just over 1400Cad, quite a bit for 16 GB VRAM considering a 7900XTX is 24 GB but does not have 'RTX' like how the Nvidia GPUs have.
It stays off until I launch anything GPU-intensive or start a game; otherwise, It Idles during browsing or just daily use. It is a very big card and is heavy for a GPU. RGB is nice with the XLR8 logo and the LEDs on the bottom. Overall, it performs very well and paired with the 7800X3D, it can run anything at 1440p and High settings at 4k.
Case
Got it for very cheap but otherwise, amazing case. Fun to build in, lots of space in the back to hide the cables, great front presentation and the angled case fans are great for temps while keeping the dual-chambered design
