External Hard Drives

philip

Feb. 24, 2015

I'm happy to announce that PCPartPicker now lists external hard drives! Whether you're including it into your part list or looking for great external storage deals, we now have you covered.

This initial rollout supports desktop and portable drives ranging in capacity from 120GB to over 20TB. We are not currently listing NAS devices yet, but hope to support them in the future.

We're continually adding new drives to our listings. However if you can't find the one you're looking for let us know in the forums and we'll get it added promptly.

I was wondering when pcpartpicker would do this. Any future plans to add printers?

I think that's very possible. We hope to expand out our categories quite a bit (and in relatively short order).

Hail Phillip!! I also hope to see pen drives and some day.................... computer desks (LOL! I know this isn't a furniture site but I can't seem to find any desk which will accommodate 5 32 inch monitor in landscape mode).

Never cease to amaze us. Thanks for all the great work you and others have done on this site. It is insanely valuable and a great resource.

system controllers?

Maybe some custom loop parts might have been more useful....

Water cooling components are several orders of magnitude more work labor for data entry (thousands of fittings alone, much less other components) as well as compatibility evaluation. It's something we'd like to add sometime in the future, but it's a tremendous amount of work to get there.

An alternative would be making a sister or branched off site of pcpartpicker for watercooling, with the ability to add chosen parts as pcpartpicker item in the final build.

Could you not collaborate with other websites such as http://www.aquatuning.co.uk/ who already have the database of thousands of components? They will probably be interested as well because you will bring customers to them, so mutual benefits :)

I'm a sad panda...

Maybe start with core water cooling parts (water blocks, rads, reservoirs, pumps)?

Scared someone would say something like you just said...

Any plans to add a wireless drive filter?

  • 1 point

I think so. Maclamby (who added all the external drives) and I talked about the wireless ones. I think we'll add them at some point, but decided to stick to the simpler ones for the initial rollout. Now that things have settled he and I can chat more about it.

Is it possible to add a filter for SSD external drives?

It would be pretty neat :)

And thanks for that, it's a pretty great addition!

That should be doable. Thanks for the suggestion!

No fix yet on the link / filter add error. When say, adding/searching memory, on the upper right, next to set price alert - there is am "Add From Filter" just to its right. Click on it and it ADDS a FOAM filter to your parts list. It does not allow you to set a "From" filter - I assume it supposed to allow you to select specific vendors. Hope, add a FOAM filter. Very Freakin' Odd!

I'm not sure what you mean by "FOAM" but the from filter button adds a selection of parts based on the filters you have set. Retailers are not taken into account for that.

Click on it and you'll see what I mean

If you see those please let us know so we can correct them.

@philip have you thought about water cooling expansion? There is lack of a proper water cooling configuration platform that tells you the compatibility between different components (blocks, fittings, tubes, reservoirs etc). I have just went through all water cooling manufacturers and distributors in the UK, US and Europe, most of the websites were horrible... At the moment PCpartpicker is my favorite PC community, partlist log, and build showcase portal. If you include water cooling you will simply be the best! Thank you for your work and the effort you put into this website, I appreciate it!

Could you please add a height or fan size filter for CPU Coolers. I am currently looking for a small cooler to fit under a drive bay converter in my HTPC case and can only find out dimensions when I click through to the sellers page

Is it possible we could also get a filter for what year a component is released. there's been a few times when it would have been a big help when comparing a to b.
